Two 'clumps' appeared over successive nights. Over the third, a late evening vigil found two males competing in a croaking competition, trying to impress a female, hidden in the reeds. They lay flat on the water, spreadeagled, and have pronounced white throats.
Two toads were also found making their way to the pond, so hopefully, there's toad spawn to follow.
