April 2008

Over the years, our frog population has fallen, but the toads have increased.

Whereas in the early years, toadswpawn was rarely seen, this year there has been masses of it. It is laid in long trails around the vegetation, below the surface and is difficult to see. This area of spawn looks to be mainly un-fertilised (eggs turning white), but some look ok. On one balmy evening, 15 toads were counted in and around the pond.
